Fire and it's aftermath- the San Diego county fires of October, 2003
This is our deck facing west. We can see the Otay Lakes fire to the south of us.
Here you can see smoke on the ground where the flames were yesterday afternoon. They said they had been setting backfires in the area. Maybe that is what stopped the flames. The wind is still now and the fire is not moving very fast.
This, and the scenes following, are scenes of the Scripps Ranch area. These were taken by some of the residents and posted on the web. Note the large number of eucalyptus trees.
Pumpkins sit on the porch while fire rages inside. This was taken by a photo journalist during the fire.

October 27th - The pumpkins still sit on the porch, unscathed, while the house is now totally destroyed.
